"مدينة مجاورة للأرض" هو عنوان كتاب قصص مصوّرة. ليست تلك المدينة المجاورة للأرض سوى بيروت. رسوم بالأبيض والأسود، ورواية عن فريد طويل الذي يعود من العمل إلى بيته، لكنّه لا يجده.

شو صار؟ كيف اختفى؟ ما حدا بيعرف، ما حدا بهمّه يعرف!! والمدينة الي كان يعرفها تحوّلت لمتاهة من دون مدخل، بيبقى الجنون هو المخرج الوحيد منها.

كتاب الفأرة حلم بدأته صديقتي هيلين الخال سنة 2005 عندما أرتني الكتاب الذي أهداها إياه شفيق عبود وانغرمت به، وقالت لي: " هذا الكتاب يشبه عالم دار قنبز يجب أن تنشريه" وها هو ينشر بعد 60 سنة بعد 20 طبعة طبعها شفيق عبود بالفرنسية في باريس سنة 1954. كتاب رسوماته وسرده من زمن البارحة الآن وغدا، ويجب أن يعيش من جديد. وها هو يعيش من جديد مع اللغة العربية ومع نفحة الحكاية الشعبية اللبنانية الذي استوحى منها الفنان قصّة الفأرة.

Unlike previously published books on Palestinian Embroidery, this book is the first to document all the different motifs by origin and names used on the old dresses.

The tradition of embroidery is one of the great art forms of village life in Palestine. From mother to daughter, each generation added new inspirations to the traditional designs. Women would meet on market days, for family celebrations and of course at the pilgrims' meeting places and gain muse from each other.

Margarita Skinner of Switzerland in collaboration with Widad Kawar of Jordan provides us with a glimpse into the history of embroidery, starting with the invention of the needle some 20,000 years ago. Over 200 Palestinian motifs of the period 1850-1950 have been illustrated.

Unlike previously published books on Palestinian Embroidery, this book, Palestinian Embroidery Motifs 1850-1950: A Treasury of Stitches, is the first to document all the different motifs by origin and names used on the old dresses.

يأتي الجزء الثاني من " مدينة مجاورة للأرض" بعد جزء أوّل صدر سنة 2011. وفيها يستكمل الفنان اللبناني رسم الجولات الكابوسيّة لبطله فريد الطويل في أحياء وأزقّة بيروت. بتدرّجات الحبر الأسود يبني أبو مهيا المدينة من ذاكرته البصرية التي تكاد بتفاصيلها تشبه عدسة الكاميرا فتصوّر عماراتها العشوائية، ولافتاتها، وبعض معالمها مثل مبنى شركة الكهرباء الذي يتصدّر غلاف الكتاب. من قلب هذه الواقعيّة، يخلق مناخات خياليّة قاتمة، تجعل من متاجر المدينة مستودعاً للأجنّة الميّتة، فيما تجوب أزقّتها كرنفالات للعراة. هكذا تبدو هذه الأحداث والأبعاد الغرائبية استعارة عن مآزق البلاد اليومية، في ظل فساد الحكم السياسي. الحافلة هذه المرّة لا توصل البطل فريد الطويل إلى مكتبه في شركة التأمين كما كلّ يوم، بل تدفعه لأن يخوض مغامرات عجيبة تدفع القارئ لأن يشكّ بوجوده وبوجود المكان على السواء.
